Hutcheson Medical Center, RIP: Time to take Fort Oglethorpe hospital off life support

The consensus of all attending a hearing in federal bankruptcy court was that Hutcheson hospital, as it now exists, will not survive to celebrate its 62nd birthday.

“Things have changes,” judge Paul Bonapfel said to open a hearing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Rome, Ga., Wednesday to determine whether the hospital could sell one of its assets, Parkside Nursing Home.

The Fort Oglethorpe-based hospital has been in Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection since late November 2014. But little progress in restructuring and developing a viable business model has been made during the intervening months.
