Hutcheson welcomes first babies after re-opening of labor and delivery services
Hutcheson Medical Center in Fort Oglethorpe welcomed its first baby delivery Monday, Dec. 15, following the re-opening of the community hospital’s labor and delivery department.
Kelsey Alexandar, the mother who delivered the first baby post-opening, described the experience, along with her husband Josh, of giving birth at Hutcheson to Betsy Jean Alexander as simply “amazing.”
“It’s been fantastic,” said Kelsey Alexander. “It’s been totally amazing and having our baby at Hutcheson Medical Center has been a great experience.”
The first birth was followed up that same day by an emergency delivery in the hospital’s parking lot after Andrea Mercer arrived at Hutcheson’s Women’s Center in full labor.
Driving from Rock Spring at 80 mph, Andrea and her husband, John, made it just short of the Hutcheson Medical Center’s doors where Hutcheson’s labor and delivery team sprinted into action under the leadership of registered nurse Angela Blevins.
