Recount complete in district attorney race

District Attorney Results

The Aug. 9 recount requested by Doug Woodruff in the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit district attorney race resulted in identical vote counts in each of the four counties covered by the race, according to a news release from Woodruff’s campaign.

Woodruff, a public defender in the four-county judicial circuit, lost the election by 42 votes in the race against incumbent Herbert “Buzz” Franklin in the July 31 general primary.

The Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit includes Walker, Catoosa, Dade and Chattooga counties.

After 21,914 votes were cast, Franklin received 10,978 votes to Woodruff’s 10,936 votes, which is less than a fifth of 1 percent. Georgia law provides a recount upon request if the difference is not more than 1 percent.
