State Sen. Jeff Mullis wants to know if Fort Oglethorpe council members and the mayor abused their powers when they set in motion events that ended with the departure of three city leaders.
Mayor Lynn Long also wants to review the city’s charter, but for different reasons. Long thinks the charter gives the city manager too much power.
Mullis, of Chickamauga, authored a resolution calling for a committee to look at the city’s charter and whether city officials overstepped their bounds.

Resolutions for Sunday alcohol sales made it to last week’s Fort Oglethorpe council meeting. But that’s where it ended.
Council members Earl Gray's motion to approve the Sunday alcohol sales referendum, presented in the council’s March 25 meeting, failed for lack of a second.
Mayor Lynn Long was confident about Sunday alcohol sales making it on the November ballot, and it still might. It all came down to new council member Clay Kissner, who abstained from voting.

WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court today again will confront the issue of gay marriage, hearing arguments on a U.S. law that denies federal benefits to legally married same-sex couples.
Almost two hours of oral argument before the court will focus on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), just a day after the nine justices considered the constitutionality of California's Proposition 8 ban on gay marriage.
The Obama administration's lawyers agree that DOMA is unconstitutional, and U.S. Solicitor Gen. Donald B. Verrilli Jr. will urge justices to invalidate it.
