DSL, (Digital Subscriber Line) allows you to access the
Internet at speeds up to 150 times the speed of dial-up. There are many forms of DSL technology available
(HDSL, IDSL, SDSL, to name a few). Ringgold Telephone
Company is offering ADSL (Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber
Line) we call "QuickServ" ADSL. "QuickServ" ADSL lets
you connect to the Internet and talk on the phone at the
same time. There is no need to buy a second line for your
computer and your phone line will no longer be busy just
because you are surfing the net.
Because you're always connected to the Internet with "QuickServ"
ADSL, you will no longer get busy signals, slow connections
or sudden disconnects. There is no usage limit with "QuickServ"
ADSL either; you can stay connected 24 hours a day, seven
days a week, at no additional cost to you!
"QuickServ"
ADSL includes a high-speed data line and unlimited
Internet Service with RTC Internet (a 50-hour dial up
account is also included as a back-up).NOTE:
You must have an existing telephone line to obtain our
ADSL service.
Depending on the package you buy,
the theoretical maximum speed of our "QuickServ" high-speed
service is 1536 Kb per second. However, that speed only
applies to the section of the network under RTC Internet's
control, and the quality or length of your phone line
may reduce the speed further. Note that we cannot
control the many factors on the Internet such as traffic,
time of day, or server capability which have a very
significant effect on speed.
Below is a list of our "QuickServ"

If you are using a speed test site
on the Internet to check ADSL speed, you might want
to try a different method. We feel that this method
is a more reliable test of maximum data throughput.
Go get a free copy of AnalogX
Netstat Live at: http://www.tucows.com (measures bandwidth
throughput)
Start 3 different sessions of Internet Explorer or Netscape
running simultaneously.
Start 3 different file downloads from 3 different sites
at the same time.
Here is a list of URLs that are normally relatively fast:

Start up Netstat Live
To reset Netstat Live counters "right click" on Netstat
graph and click "reset"
Take note of the maximum and average speed on the graph.
This should give you a good idea of maximum throughput
capability on your connection.
Keep in mind, Netstat measurements are in Kbytes/sec.
Multiply this number by 8 to get Kbits/sec. (Example:
140K on Netstat = 140k X 8 = 1120Kbits/sec or 1.120 Megabits/sec)
