WASHINGTON, March 27, 2017 - The Federal Communications Commission is alerting consumers to be on the lookout for scam callers seeking to get victims to say the word “yes” during a call and later use a recording of the response to authorize unwanted charges on the victim's utility or credit card account.

AT&T buys Direct TV in $49 billion merger

AT&T now owns Direct TV. On July 24th, the FCC approved the merger between the largest satellite TV provider and one of the largest wireless carriers, effectively creating the largest Pay TV distributor in the world–some 26 million subscribers.

Comcast wants control...of everything

Comcast blocking Centurylink

CenturyLink is the latest company to accuse Comcast of being a bully corporation. According to the Louisiana-based communications company, Comcast is blocking competition in many of its territories. The cable and internet giant argues that CenturyLink should be required to build their own network before being allowed into new communities–something big companies like AT&T aren’t required to do in places like North Georgia.

Thursday morning, the FCC ruled 3-2 to open a Notice of Proposed Rule making (NPRM) on Net Neutrality rules. This proposal will build on the 2010 Open Internet Order that was struck down in January after a court battle with Verizon.

Comcast strikes sneaky deal with Charter

It was announced this week that if the Comcast-Timer Warner merger is approved, Comcast will hand over a portion of its post-merger subscribers to Charter Communications. This means that roughly 1.4 million Time Warner cable subscribers will be sold to Charter, expanding its video customers from 4.4 million to almost 5.8 million.

Netflix CEO joins the fight for net neutrality
