Three years ago--3 weeks before prom--Shay Love got a call from the schools asking her help for some local kids who couldn’t afford to attend prom. After seeing this major need in the community, she decided to make it an annual fundraiser. She is partnering with the PLC in Fort Oglethorpe to help get a list of students in need. Along with Shay’s work and donations—monetary and dresses--from the community, Southern Charm is helping with Tuxedo rentals for the boys.
Climer of Ringgold elected president of UNG student government
Michaela Climer of Ringgold was elected to serve as president of the University of North Georgia student government association for the 2015/2016 academic year.
SGA is the official voice for the student population at UNG. Students are elected by their peers and strive to maintain and improve the student experience through policy.

Valdosta State University announces dean’s list and graduates for spring 2015
Valdosta State University announced the names of students who earned dean’s list status for the spring semester and those who graduated.
Students who achieve a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on nine or more semester hours with an institutional grade point average of 3.00 or higher are placed on the list.
The following local area students were named to the list: Elizabeth King and Madison Smith of Ringgold and Ashley Prescott of Rossville.
Ringgold Telephone Company and the Evitt Foundation are pleased to announce the winners of the 2015 Evitt Foundation Scholarship.
Michael McDonald, son of Chris and Melanie McDonald, is a graduate of Ringgold High School. Michael is the first recipient of the 2015 Evitt Foundation Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
Matthew Blaylock, son of Dennis and Rhonda Swinney, is a graduate of Heritage High School. Matthew is the second recipient of the 2015 Evitt Foundation Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
· Ridgeland High School’s graduation ceremony will be held Thursday, May 14, at 7 p.m. at The University of Tennessee at McKenzie Arena, 720 East Fourth Street, Chattanooga.
· LaFayette High School’s graduation ceremony will be held Friday, May 15, at 8 p.m. at the school's football stadium (Jack King Stadium).
· Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School’s graduation ceremony will be held Friday, May 22, at 6 p.m. at The University of Tennessee at McKenzie Arena, 720 East Fourth Street, Chattanooga.
Eleven years ago, The Evitt Foundation, a 501(c)(3), was established to honor the memory and legacy of Ringgold Telephone Company founder, Jim Evitt, Sr. During his lifetime, Jim Evitt Sr. was an instrumental part of numerous projects that made Ringgold a better community. One of his top priorities was to help better the lives of children. Since 2004, The Evitt Foundation has selected students in the area to receive scholarships. Every year, scholarships in the amount of $1,000 have been given to three students who are planning to further their educations beyond high school.
Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) will hold two GED graduation ceremonies to accommodate students from all nine counties of the Northwest Georgia region. Ceremonies will be divided into a northern and southern location for the convenience of students and their families.
The northern location ceremony will take place Thursday, June 12, at the Colonnade in Ringgold at 7 p.m.
The southern location GED® Graduation ceremony will be held Thursday, June 26, at the Forum in Rome at 7 p.m.
