After ample meetings and hours of discussion over the past several months, the Catoosa County school board officially adopted a budget for fiscal 2012-13 at the Aug. 23 meeting.
Kim Nichols, Catoosa County director of school improvement, said that after evaluating the situation, board members chose to stay the course and not increase the property tax — or millage — rate.

Northwest Georgia voters sent a clear message Tuesday that they were against a 1 percent sales tax increase that would have funded billions of dollars of transportation projects.
Nearly 70 percent of voters rejected the transportation special purpose local option sales tax across the 15-county district in Tuesday's primary election, with some local voters saying their reason was they didn't want another tax increase.
"I'm against it because I think we pay enough in taxes," Ringgold resident Stephanie Harvey said.

The question over whether to approve a penny-on-the-dollar sales tax to pay for road projects is a hot-button topic in Catoosa County, as well as statewide.
Local proponents of the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or TSPLOST, say the sales tax will not only help upgrade roads but also create jobs. Opponents argue that much of the money collected locally will be spent elsewhere.
The question of whether to pass the tax will be on ballots in Catoosa, and across Georgia, in the July 31 general primary.
